MRS JOHN C. WOODS IS CALLED BY DEATH

Saturday night at 9:45 o'clock occured the death of Mrs. John C. Woods at her home 3 1/2 miles nw of Vinton. Mrs. Woods had been in ill health for several months, her death being caused by heart trouble and arteriosclerosis. Jane LaVere Burnett daughter of Israel and Sarah Burnett was born in Jackson County November 5, 1855. She ws married to John C. Woods who preceeded her in death eleven years ago. She had been a resident of Benton County for over 50 years, the family coming to this community from a farm near Atkins. For the last sixteen years she had lived on a farm in Jackson township where her death occured. Ten of the eleven children survivie. Mrs. Willard McCorckle, Mrs. Ira Bosworth of Shellsburg, Will Woods, Mrs. Ed Allen, Mrs. M.F. Allen, Miss Della Woods, Clarence Woods, Mrs. Clint Henkle, Charles, and Joe Woods all of Vinton. The funeral was at the Presbyterian Church and burial at Evergreen Cemetery.

JOHN CALVIN WOODS

John Calvin Woods, son of William and Fanny Woods was born in Freeport PA August 12, 1844 and died at his farm near Vinton February 20, 1914 at the age of 70 years 6 months and 8 days. He came with his parents to Iowa in the 1850's and located in Jackson County. He enlisted in the Union Army August 4, 1862 and served until the close of hte war. In 1867 he was united in marriage with Magnolia Baker of Bellevue. To this union were born three chldren George F. of Seattle, WA, Mrs. Eva Phelps of Bayard IA and John E. of Clemmons IA. The mother died January 25, 1873. Mr. Woods was again united in marriage February 5, 1874 to Jane L. Burnette of Bellevue who survives him. Eleven children to this union five sons and six daughters, Mrs. Maggie McCorckle of Palo, Mable Bosworth, Shellburg, Amanda Allen Vinton, William T, Carrie A. Thales, Della L, Clarence A., Sylvia A., Charles E, and Joseph O are at home excepting Thales who died in infancy. He leaves one brother Frank A. Woods of Allerton and two sisters Lizzie Tienan of Swea City and Mrs. Amanda Mitchell of Clemmons. Masonic Lodge held services
