Eleanore White

VINTON: Eleanore White, age 91, died November 9, 2006 at Virginia Gay Nursing & Rehab Center following an extended illness.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM, Friday, November 17, 2006 at the Urbana Christian Church with Dr. Lyle L. Dake of Lawrenceville, IL officiating. Interment will be held at Oakwood Cemetery near Shellsburg. Friends may call at Phillips Family Center...

Eleanore was born January 31, 1915 to Albert and Iona (Van Fossen) Borne, but was raised by her grandmother, Anna Van Fossen. She graduated from the Shellsburg high School in 1933 and married Delbert White in 1933. They lived and farmed in Benton County all of their married life. Delbert preceded his wife in death on February 27, 1971.

Eleanore was a long time member of the Urbana Christian Church and CWF of her congregation... Since 1998 she has made her home at Virginia Gay Nursing and Rehab Center in Vinton...

She is survived by her children, Donna Lala of Cedar Rapids, Marilyn (Dr. Lyle) Dake of Lawrenceville, IL, Jean (Dan) Dolph of Cedar Rapids, and Duane (Janice) White of Vinton; ten grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

In addition to her parents, grandmother, and husband, she was preceded in death by a great-granddaughter.

AN OLD SETTLER GONE-The Shellsburg Call, of last week, has the following notice of the death of John White Sr.
John White, Sr.

Died-In Shellsburg, May 25, 1885, from old age, Mr. John White, Sr, wanting three months of four score and eight years. Mr. White was born in the state of Virginia, spent his boyhood in Pennsylvania; thirty and four years in Ohio, and moved to Shellsburg as one of the first settlers in 1840. He reared a family of five sons and six daughtes; he is survived by his wife 13 years; he leaves eight children and forty-eight grandchildren. He was a kind husband and father, agreeable neighbor, good citizen and hopeful christian. A very large congregation attended his funeral at the Baptist church.

Lena Marie White

VINTON: Lena Marie White, 88, died Sunday, April 16, 2006, in her home following an extended illness.

Friends may call...at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel in Vinton.

...Private Committal Services will be held at Oakwood Cemetery in Shellsburg at a later date.

Lena was born January 8, 1918 in Shellsburg to Frank and Edith (King) Weatherwax and graduated from Shellsburg High School in 1935.

On September 6, 1936, she married Boyd White in Shellsburg. He preceded her in death April 7, 1999.

She is survived by her children, Marlyn (Luana) White of Shellsburg, Marian (Carl Kahler of Vinton, Connie Kimball of Mesa, Arizona, Ron (Bonnie) White of Hiawatha, Gary (Vicki) White of Surprise, Arizona, Barbara White of Mesa, Arizona, Janette (Dennis) Koch of Hawkeye, and Dan (Raejean) White of Cedar Rapids; twenty-one grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; thirteen step-great grandchildren and eight step-great-great grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, a son, Lonnie Lee, a daughter, Diana (White) Booth, her parents, a brother; two sisters; a son-in-law; a step-grandson; and a great grandson, preceded her in death

...she enjoyed working in Cedar Rapids, especially in the Bridal Department at Armstrong's, and Cramer's Department Store. Later she worked at Roy's Grocery Store in Shellsburg, for twelve or thirteen years.

She was a member of Oak Grove Christian Church...
