Mrs. Clifford Spurgeon of Shellsburg Dead

The Shellsburg community was saddened Thursday afternoon by the death of Mrs. Clifford Spurgeon following a weeks' illness from influenza and pneumonia.

Raymond Kuhn was the only child of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Kuhn and was born on a farm in Eden township, Feb 15, 1890. She attended the Vinton high school and graduated from Tilford Academy. Dec. 18, 1912 she was married to Clifford Spurgeon. The deceased has spent all her life in this vicinity and lived a quiet home life. A few years ago she united with the M. E. church. Those who survive are the parents, husband, two children, Nellie Marie, 6 years of age, and Henry clifford, 4 years of age and one son by a former marriage, Oliver Culp, who resides with his grandparents. A grandmother, Mrs. Williamson resides in Waterloo.

Funeral services will be private and conducted by Rev. Pyle. Many friends extend sympathy to the bereaved relatives.

Young Wife and Mother is Called
Raymond Kuhn Culp Spurgeon

Mrs. clifford spurgeon of Shellsburg passed away yesterday, was only child of Mr. and Mrs. H. Kuhn

The death of Mrs. clifford Spurgeon of Shellsburg occurred yesterday afternoon between three and four o'clock following an illness of only a few days. Last Saturday Mrs. Spurgeon came down with influenza. Later pneumonia developed and yesterday morning other complications arose, which resulted in her death. Mrs. Spurgeon was the only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Kuhn of Shellsburg cemetery.

Mrs. Spurgeon was born in the country between Vinton and Shellsburg and was 30 years of age on the fifteeth day of the present month. She went with her parents to Shellsburg some years ago upon their retirement from the farm and her marriage to Clifford Spurgeon took place there. The husband and three small children survive.
