Mrs. Bert Powers Is Called By Death

This community was grieved and shocked to learn Friday, Dec. 31, of the death of Mrs. Bert Powers at Mercy hospital in Cedar Rapids. She had been seriously ill for two weeks.
Kathryn Theresa Cranston was born in Blairstown Dec. 26, 1922, and was the youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Cranston of this place. She passed her early childhood here and attended the local school until she reached the 9th grade and then the family moved to Van Horne where she was graduated from the Van Horne high school with the class of 1940. She was possessed of an unusually sunny disposition and was beloved by all who knew her. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic church at Van Horne.
She was united in marriage to Bert L. Powers of Vinton on Jan. 4, 1942, at Ft. Leonard Wood, Mo. Besides her husband, who is stationed with the army somewhere in North Africa, she leaves to mourn her loss, her parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Cranston, one brother, Robert of Van Horne, and two sisters, Mrs. William Schumacher and Mrs. Kent Kimm, both of Cedar Rapids, as well as a large number of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.
Funeral services were held at Immaculate Conception church in Van Horne at 9 a.m. Monday, Jan. 3, 1944, and were in charge of the Rev. Father Norris. Burial was in the Cedar Memorial park cemetery in Cedar Rapids.
