Retired Farmer; Arl McNeal, Dies; Rites Tuesday
Arl McNeal

Arl McNeal, 89, retired farmer, died Saturday morning at Virginia Gay hospital where he had been a patient the past 13 months.

He was born Feb, 6, 1878, at Vinton, a son of James and Emma Bennett McNeal. He married Sadie Grimm on Dec. 18, 1900.

He is survived by two sons, Charles and Harvey of Vinton; six daughters, Mrs. Olon (Pearl) Noe of Garrison, Mrs. Robert (Mable) Lindberg, Mrs. Lester (Edna) Noe, Mrs. John (Mary) Bergstrand Jr., Mrs. Floyd (Alice) Peterson, and Mrs. Donald (Ella) Holst of Vinton; three sisters, Mrs. Mary Brickner of Apple River, Ill., Mrs. Margaret Utter and Mrs Cecil Snyder of Vinton; 25 grandchildren and 15 great great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday at the Fry and Holand funeral home with Rev. Harold Wagner officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery.

Friends may call at Mr. McNeal's late home, 905 E. 4th St. after 5 p.m. Monday and until 10:30 a.m. Tuesday. The body will be taken to the funeral home where friends may call until the hour of the funeral.

Jimmie Ray "Jake" McNeal

GARRISON - Jimmie Ray "Jake" McNeal, age 55, died January 27, 2003 at Covenant Medical Center, Waterloo following a sudden illness.

Jimmie Ray "Jake" McNeal was born May 8,1947 at rural Mt.Auburn,Iowa to John and Dorothy Nessler McNeal. He grew up at Mt.Auburn, and graduated from Washington High School in Vinton. Jim served his country from 1966 to 1968 in the Army, stationed in Germany. On September 24,1966 he married Carol Noeller at the First Christian Church in Vinton. Jake, as he was known by most people, worked in the foundry at John Deere Tractor Works in Waterloo for twenty-eight years, retiring in 1994. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Vinton and the Emil H. Dutler American Legion Post #177 in Mt. Auburn.

He was preceded by his mother, Dorothy, his father-in-law, Gale Noeller. He is survived by his father, John McNeal,Garrison Ia., his wife of 36 yeard Carol Cristyne McNeal, his son, Jim McNeal and Corrie Engledow, Dysart, Ia., his daughter Cristyne McNeal, and special friend Bart Kruse, Vinton, Ia., grandchildren Cole, Cylie, and Carlie McNeal, three sisters, Patty Fox, Ft. Myers Fl., Sandra Carlson and husband, Les, Ozark Mo., Connie Millard and husband, Gary, Vinton, Ia. and seveeral nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday Jan. 30, 2003, at First Christian Church with Rev. David Gates officiating.

Overton-Van Steenhuyse Funeral Home, Vinton is in charge of arrangements.

Burial at Garrison Cemetery, Garrison, with military rites bu Emil H, Dutler Post #177.
