Arthur L. Janss services Tuesday at Belle Plaine

Arthur L. Janss

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon, Jan. 15, at Peffers funeral home, Belle Plaine, for Arthur L. Janss, 64, who died Saturday evening, Jan. 12, of a heart attack at St. Luke's Presbyterian hospital in Chicago, Ill.

Mr. and Mrs. Janss and Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Ellis had attended a meeting of Funk's-G Hybrid seed corn producers at Biloxi, Miss., and had returned by way of Chicago to visit G. M. Silver, a business associate who is a patient in the Chicago hospital. Mr. Janss became ill as they arrived at the hospital and was admitted late Saturday afternoon. He died at 11 p.m.

Mr. Janss was born at Mason City, Nebr., Dec. 20, 1898, the son of Cornelius and Mary Janss. He was educated in the Belle Plaine schools and was graduated with the class of 1917.

Veteran - He served in the United States army in World War I.

Mr. Janss and the former Margaret Goss were married at Blairstown Oct. 25, 1925.

At one time he was with the internal revenue department at Shenandoah and the Union Central Life of Cincinnati as a field representative at Indianola and Winterset. He also served as a bank exmainer at Casey, Dexter and Adel.

Mr. Janss joined Funk Bros. Seed Co., at Belle Plaine Aug. 1, 1943. For nearly 20 years he held the position of office manager of the firm's Iowa-Minnesota operations at Belle Plaine.

Mr. Janss was a member of the Congregational church and throughout the years he served on various committees for the church. He was also a member of Hope Lodge No. 175, A.F. & A.M., and Jennings-Bradshaw post No. 39, the American Legion.

The Rev. Alvin Boettcher, pastor of the Congregational chruch, was in charge of the service. Mrs. Grace Morek was the organinst.

Pallbearers were: John F. Lahn, Alfred Lahn, R. O. Burrows, Sr., Joe C. Drahos, Don McGillivray and Jessa Petitt.

Burial was in Oak Hill cemetery, Belle Plaine.

He is survived by his wife, two sisters, Mrs. Harold Edgcomb, Ottawa, Ill., and Mrs. Alfred (Etta) Moeller, Remsen, and a brother, Henry Janss, Belle Plaine.

Attending the services were relatives and friends from the following places: Jackson, Mich., Streeter, Ill., Remesen, Bloomington, Ill., Blairstown, Keystone, Cedar Rapids, Lincoln and Omaha, Nebr.
