Portrait and Biographical Album of Benton County, Iowa
Chicago: Chapman Brothers, 1887

STEPHEN KING, deceased, was a pioneer of Cedar Township, arriving here in 1852. At that time there were not more than three or four families living in the township. He was born in what is now West Virginia, Jan. 14, 1804, and was a son of George King. He went to Tennessee, with his parents, in his youth, where he grew to manhood and was married. Mr. King was the father of seventeen children, he having been married three times. There were seven in the last family. As stated, he came to Cedar Township in 1852, where he engaged in farming until his death, which occurred March 24, 1880.

Mr. King and his wife were connected by membership with the Lutheran Church. In politics he was a Democrat. At the time of his death, he had over 500 acres of land, a quarter-section of which he pre-empted at the time of his coming to this county.
