Benton County, Iowa ~ Biography and Family Information

Joel Voiles

Joel has records under Voiles and Viles, I believe in Iowa.
He also had a nephew Joel Gordon Voiles, and it is hard to
distinguish the two in the records for Iowa.

Joel was first married to Charlotte E. Taylor, she died Dec. 22, 1856
Aged 22 years 11 months 20 days m on 12 Aug 1847 Decatur Co., Indiana.
Charlotte is buried at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Benton County, Iowa.
Her stone reads Aged 22 years 11 months 20 days, wife of Joel G. Viles.
She is the daughter of Daughter of Benjamin & Nancy Taylor

Joel Gordon Voiles/Viles and his 2nd wife Elizabeth Parker Viles.
Joel's correct name is Joel Gordon Voiles. He is the son of
Benjamin Reece Voiles and Polly Loyd

this is a trew record as it was in the old Bible, you will see that
some of them have not the day of the month that they were born on.
Mother's death was never put on the Bible, she died April 1863 if
I am not mistaken.

Dear Brothers and Sister, this leaves us well as comon and we hope
these few lines may find you the same. Your letter with one that
we got from John the same day brought grate sorrow to us the death
of our dear sister. The last time I saw her I left her a crying
because I was coming west. She looked as much like living a long
life as any of us, but alas I shal never see her any more in this
world had I new she was so nere her death I would have come and
saw her rite and tell me where she is berryed at and who preached
her funeral. I saw a letter that Reece got from William he said
her funeral was preached before she was berried. Well Jacob you
said that times were hard out there I believe that is the cry
everywhere everything is low here except cattle they bring a good
price hogs are worth 3 dollars per hundred corn 15, 20 cents
oats 15. I will close this time write soon
J. C. Voiles to Jacob M. Voiles and family.
