RELIGIOUS INSTITUTIONS.

CONGREGATIONALIST:--This society was organized first in 1859, and reorganized in 1871 and a church building erected at a cost of several thousand dollars. The present membership of the church is about seventy-five. A handsome parsonage has just been completed at a cost of about $1,000. Rev. Roberts is the present pastor, and is doing much for his church and is held in high esteem by the entire community.

METHODIST EPISCOPAL CHURCH:--This church has the honor of being the oldest Christian organization in the county, having been organized in 1854. In 1873 a church building was erected at a cost of nearly $4,000. Rev. Dix is the present pastor, and is well liked by all. The membership numbers about 100. A new parsonage is in course of construction, which will cost nearly $1,000.

CHRISTIAN CHURCH:--This church was organized at Exira Feb. 11, 1877, with 26 charter members. The following year a church was built at a cost of about $2,000. The following ministers have filled the pulpit as regular salaried ministers: J. M. Crocker, G. W. Hamilton and J. A. Walters. This religious society is out of debt, and has a membership of seventy-six. Rev. J. A. Walters is the rpesent pastor and he is doing much good in the advancement of his church.

CATHOLIC CHURCH:--This society is quite strong here, and owns a comfortable building for religious worship.
