DRUGGIST.--The subject of this sketch was the first man to pitch his tent on the site where Audubon now stands. It was in the month of August, 1878, and nothing but the beautiful rolling prairies met his gaze as he looked out from his lonely abode. It did not require but a few moments thought to convince this shrewd and ambitious young man that he need travel no farther towards the setting sun (he was bound for California) seeking a suitable place to make a fortune. He was filled with hope and ambition. A suitable building was erected and he at once embarked in the drug business. After four years successful life in Audubon, Mr. Cloughly returned to Lansdown, Ontario, his birthplace. July 12, 1882, he was united in marriage to Miss Mary Loney, of Lansdown, an estimable and accomplished lady, and a former school mate. The union has proved a happy one. An only child, Augusta, six years of age, is the idol of this happy couple. In all financial and commercial matters he has been a leader. In his efforts to succed [sic succeed] in his own business, he has never been known to sacrifice the interest of his town and community to accomplish that end. To Mr. Cloughly's devotion to his town and county, much could be said in his praise, He served as councilman six years, and the city never had a more enthusiastic public servant. He was a fearless champion of every public improvement beneficial to his town. He has dealt extensively and successfully in real estate and to-day owns valuable property both in and out of the city. He has owned five different drug stocks, and just purchased a complete new stock of drugs, druggist's sundries and show-case goods, patent medicines, etc. Everything is new, and as he bought for cash he is enabled to sell at a close margin. He has always taken a deep interest in the success of the Audubon County Agricultural Society, and particularly in that branch calculated to stimulate the breeding of fine horses, in which business he is extensively engaged, owning several fine steppers. By his devotion to business and town, he has made many friends and succeeded in building up a large trade. In business circles and in social life Mr. Cloughly is a valuable citizen and has the confidence and respect of the entire community in which he resides. In Masonry he has reached Knight Templars degree; Subordinate and Camp, I. O. O. F., Uniform Rank K. of P., and I. O. R. M.
