Salem Cemetery - Udell

Douglas Township,  Section 11.  On the site of the former Methodist Episcopal Church, which was located next to the road.   On May 21, 1859, John and Jane White deeded the land to the trustees for $20, with the deed stipulating that the trustees "shall erect, build or cause to be erected and built thereon a house of worship for the memebers of the Methodist Episcopal Church".   The building was erected in 1860.   The congregation eventually disbanded.   About 1935, a Bapstist congregation was organized and they used the church for their services for the next 22 years.  The building was torn down in May of 1958.
