1933

School notes, Highland school
October 13 brought the second month of school to a close. The pupils who had perfect attendance for the second month are: Harlan Bray, Gilbert Livingood, Arno Helmer, Opal Livingood, Lydia Schnuelle and Ruth Nagel.

Gladys Colvin entered our school September 29, bringing the enrollment to 16. We welcome Gladys.

The fourth grade is making a health scrapbook in hygiene. The third grade geography class is also making a booklet of poems, each one receiving a gold star for each poem memorized. We are planning to have a Hallowe'en party on Hallowe'en.

1934

School notes, Highland school
The second six weeks of school has just been completed. Our hopes for perfect attendance failed when two of our boys had to stay home on shredding day.

We are working hard to earn the most gold stars for perfect attendance and spelling. Gilbert and Opal Livengood lead in the first as they have had a perfect record for the year. Gladys Colvin and Gilbert Livengood, both of the first grade, lead in spelling. Each of these have missed only one word.

We are working hard on our grammar. We find it rather difficult to form the habit of speaking correctly. We had a program November 2nd. We had a large crowd and made a nice sum of money. We thank every one for coming.

1937

School notes, Highland school
The end of the first six weeks and time for news from Highland again. The boys outnumber the girls this year by five, but the girls have the best attendance record. Come on, boys, don't let this be said of you.

Baseball is our main amusement, especially so since we got our new kittenball which really sails when some of our "Budding Babe Ruths" hit it.

Our lower grades are having just a lot of fun in the new sand box on the playground.

Last Monday Leo Dreier suprised us by bringing a dandy new Victrola, which was needed quite badly. Thank you.

Miss Brewer is so proud of our spelling record that she offered a gold pin to the one who has perfect spelling for the year. The following had perfect spelling lessons this period: Cherrie Beisker, Gilbert Livingood, Evart Hughes, Arno Hilmer, Francis Beisker, Verdell Hulbert, Eileen Martens, William Beisker, Gladys Calvin and Calvin Martens.

Those neither absent nor tardy this period were: Calvin Martens, William Beisker, Arno Hilmer, Francis Beisker, Eileen Martens, Gilbert Livingood, Shirley Martens, Cherrie Beisker and Bernard Livengood.
