Rural School Notes, 1935

English Bench School, Mrs. Viola Howes, teacher

We are now starting our new period of school. The pupils having a perfect attendance record for the past period were: Glenn Beardmore, Lois Bulman, Geraldine Bulman, Rowland and Orville Somermeyer. They have earned a quarter of a holiday Friday.

In our primary reading contest Loren Bulman was the winner. One of our beginner's, Lorna Mae Wenig, has not been attending school these cold months, but intends to return again in the spring.

Our two eighth grade students, Ethel Shefelbine and Orville Sommermeyer, wrote their examinations at Dorchester.

There are several important days in the month of February we must not forget. The first is Lincoln's birthday. We reviewed his life through stories and poems. We also made silhouettes of him. We had a Valentine party. Then we had Washington's birthday.

Last Monday we began having hot lunches. They certainly are fine on the very cold days. We wish to thank Mrs. Arthur Beardmore for giving us the privilege of using her oil stove.

Our third grade pupils, Mae Beardmore and Delbert Bulman, have completed a health booklet on the "Garden Elves of Healthland."
