Enlisted 20 May 1861. Mustered 8 Jun 1861. Private. Promoted to Corporal 5 Aug 1862. Re-enlisted 4 Jan 1864, re-mustered 2 Feb 1864; transferred into Co C 3rd Veteran Infantry Battalion. Transferred into Co I, 2nd & 3rd Veteran Infantry Consolidated, from Co C, 3rd Battalion. Mustered out 12 Jul 1865 at Louisville, Kentucky. Post war: Married 16 Oct 1866 to Emily (Laumann) Bunker, a widow whose husband had died in 1865. She and Sever had been close friends before the war. After the war, he went to Lansing, Iowa; then to Bloomington, Minnesota. In Bloomington, he became postmaster. Elected to the Minnesota Legislature in 1887. INGMUNDSON, John Anthon

WI 15th Inf Co E. Residence: Neshonoc, La Crosse County, Wisconsin. Born 28 Oct 1832 on the Gathue farm in Rygge parish, Smaalenene, Norway. Came to America in 1853, and operated a farm in Allamakee County, Iowa. Moved to Neshonoc in 1858. Civil War: Age 29. Married. Accepted a commission as Captain on 10 Dec 1861 at La Crosse with rank from the 9th. Mustered 20 Dec 1861 at Madison, Wisconsin. Killed in the Battle of Stone's River, Tennessee, on 30 Dec 1862. He was the first of the Wisconsin 15th Regimental Officers to be killed. He stood to give orders to his men in an area of boulders and underbrush in which rebel soldiers were hidden, and was shot down. His men carried his body to the rear where it was buried, but in the fighting the site was not marked and later could never be identified. Buried in an unmarked grave. Transferred to IA 12th Inf Co B on 13 Jul 1865 Discharged from the service 24 Nov 1865 at Mobile, Alabama. Post war: Married Unne Stefenson. Three children survived him. Died in 1898 at age 55, of pneumonia, at Meckling, South Dakota, and is buried in Evergreen Cemetery there. Came to America in 1855 and settled near Rockford, Illinois. Later, he moved to Allamakee County, Iowa. Civil War: Age 23. Leather worker. Unmarried. Enlisted for three years on 18 Jan 1862 at Madison, Wisconsin, and mustered there on 27 Jan 1862. Private. Left sick at Mississippi River Island No. 10, 11 Jun 1862. Served on military police duty on 17th, 20th and 24th of December, 1862. Wounded, shot through an ankle and taken prisoner at Chickamauga, Georgia, 29 Sep 1863. Held near Atlanta. Exchanged after four months. Absent because of illness. Discharged from the service because of his wounds, from Harvey Hospital in Madison, 23 Jan 1865. Post war: Married in May 1866 to Guri Johnson. Eight children. In 1868, he went to Terrace, Pope County, Minnesota. He was granted a pension of $14 a month. Died 28 Jun 1912. Many of his possessions, including Civil War items, are in the Pope County Museum at Glenwood, Minnesota. Born 19 Nov 1840 on a cotter’s farm Hegna in Nore, Numedal, Norway, son of Nils Anderson of Skjønnepladsen, Nore, and Margit Evensdatter Saeter of Nes, Hallingdal. Came to America, reaching Iowa on 27 Jul 1861. Civil War: Unmarried. Age 21. Enlisted for three years on 20 Dec 1861 at Decorah and mustered at Madison, Wisconsin, 29 Dec 1861. Private. Wounded at Stone's River, Tennessee, and sent to hospital in Nashville 31 Dec 1862. He was moved to Madison and discharged from there for disability due to his wounds on 2 Dec 1863. Later he enlisted for one hundred days in IL 143rd Inf Co I as a Corporal. Discharged 8 Dec 1864 at Mattoon, Illinois. Post war: Married in 1873 to Julia Gunderfinger. He lived at Postville, Iowa. In 1886, he was living in Elgin, Fayette County, Iowa. He died in Gunder, Iowa, on 15 Mar 1927.
