Correction! The man identified in the above photo is actually Roan Clark 'R.C.' May. My g-grandfather's brother, Roan Clark May, served as a member of Company B of the 27th Regiment of Iowa Infantry Volunteers.  Roan's grave marker in the New Albin City Cemetery identifies him as a Civil War Veteran.

Another brother, Reuben Garvine May (R. G. May) did not serve in the Civil War (at least not to my knowledge). I think the plaque in New Albin (below) shows R. C. May rather than R. G. May. ~contributed by Steve May, October 2008

A plaque, bearing their names, the inscription "Commrades", and the date May 6, 1918 was erected in their honor on a flag pole base on the corner by the old Town Hall in New Albin.
