Penn Ave. Cemetery

In May 2005, my daughter and I visited Adair County and its cemeteries. We drove to every one except those that were on private property or otherwise inaccessible. I will be putting on photos and a small commentary for each one. We visited right before Memorial Day which was a perfect time to see them in all of their finery. The lawns were newly mowed and the peonies were in full bloom and gorgeous!

This cemetery is dear to my heart. It was next to our farm (W.A. Piper farm) in Richland township. My grandfather maintained the grounds and helped with the burials. I was allowed to come along on occasions. As I walked through the cemetery today I saw many familiar names of neighbors and friends.

It was associated with the Penn Ave. Church which was approximately 100 yards to the west. The church is now in Greenfield at the Historical Society.
